Lateness & Absences
Online Homework
The homework assigned to each weekly module in the online portion of the course is due 15 minutes prior to the start of the live session for that week. Homework that is submitted late without prior written exemption from the facilitators will impact a student’s final assessment score.
Live Sessions
If a student is more than ten minutes late to a live session, they are expected to contact the facilitators by email to let them know.
Students must attend all live sessions in full. This involves a two-hour virtual introduction meeting at the start of the training and four in-person sessions. Failure to attend all sessions may result in being dropped from the training.
Training Fee
The spring and fall DV trainings are free for current and incoming volunteers.
Volunteer Requirement
It is expected that people who complete the spring and fall DV trainings will subsequently volunteer with Walnut Avenue as a domestic violence advocate. This is why we are able to offer the trainings for free.
A person who completes either the spring or fall DV training and passes the assessment rubric but does not a) submit their timesheet and b) enroll in a domestic violence service as a volunteer advocate with Walnut Avenue will not receive their certificate of completion until they submit a $295 training fee within 21 days of the final day of the training. Failure to submit the training fee within 21 days will result in their training participation being negated and they would need to redo the training to earn their certification.
Individuals who would like to do the DV training but not to volunteer with Walnut Avenue may only enroll in the summer training.
Ending Participation in the Training
A person may choose to end their participation in the training at any time, for any reason, simply by emailing the facilitators. Given the emotional intensity of the training subject, this decision is not at all uncommon. The person would be welcome to participate in any future round of the training.
A person who completes the training but changes their mind about volunteering is subject to the same terms regarding the training fee and the certificate of completion as described in the section above.
