What is "Friends of Walnut Avenue"?

One of the easiest ways to make a difference for families in under-served populations in Santa Cruz county is to join "Friends of Walnut Avenue". By joining the "Friends of Walnut Avenue" race team, you can be part of a meaningful, fun, and motivating group of people raising much needed funds for childcare, youth development, parenting, domestic violence awareness & prevention, and advocacy. Step outside your comfort zone, challenge yourself, and raise money to make a difference.

Even though you are doing it because it is such a great cause, we are excited to offer you prizes for achieving fundraising goals.

How to join the "Friends of Walnut Avenue"

We’re excited to have you join the "Friends of Walnut Avenue" team! To sign up, you just need to follow these few steps:

  1. Create a fundraising page HERE. If you have any other issues accessing your fundraising page, please email us at bkring@wafwc.org.
  2. On Facebook? Join the Walnut Avenue Facebook group! If you have a Facebook account, this is a great place to learn more about Walnut Avenue and the causes we support
  3. Have fun knowing you are raising funds to help make a difference for women and families.

Where does the money go?

All money raised by and for Walnut Avenue will go to provide support and services for women, children, and families in the Santa Cruz county. To learn more, please visit our Programs + Services pages on our website.

Team Friends of Walnut Avenue FAQs

  • What races are part of Team FOWA? "Friends of Walnut Avenue" have an official team at She.is.beautiful, Santa Cruz on March 17. However, any race where you want to run and fundraise for Walnut Avenue is considered part of Friends of Walnut Avenue.

  • Can people just donate to the cause? Absolutely! They can donate through your fundraising page or send a check to Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center at 303 Walnut Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Please note “She.is.beautiful” on the memo line.

  • Where do the funds go that are raised in this campaign? All money raised by and for Walnut Avenue will go to provide support and services for women, children, and families in the Santa Cruz county. To learn more, please visit our Programs + Services pages on our website.

  • What do I do with the checks/cash after my race? Please convert any cash to a check. If the total amount is under $250, a personal check is fine. If over this amount, please send the funds as a cashier’s check. Send checks to Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center at 303 Walnut Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Please note “She Is Beautiful” on the memo line.

Fundraising Page Questions

  • Where do I go to sign up for my fundraising page? Our She.is.beautiful fundraising event can be found here. From that page you can join the "Friends of Walnut Avenue" team or set up your own personal fundraising page.

  • I have received a lot of checks. Can I add them to my fundraising page? Yes, you can! All you need to do is go to your fundraising page and add them there as an offline donation.

  • I received a cash donation. What should I do with the cash? Go to your fundraising page and enter in the donation information as you would a check. When you mail the checks to Walnut Avenue, please do not mail the cash. Instead, please convert all cash to a check and send to Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center at 303 Walnut Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Please note “She.is.beautiful” on the memo line.
