Transforming Together Conference

The Commission for the Prevention of Violence Against Women (CPVAW) has put together its 2nd annual free awareness and prevention symposium for Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Louden Nelson Community Center from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The theme is again Transforming Together and we invite the entire Santa Cruz community -- women, men, and gender non-conforming citizens -- to come together in a collective effort to generate awareness and help prevent sexual harassment, domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual assault and rape, and respond more effectively when they do occur.

The agenda includes:

  • Dr. Joseph E. Marshall, Jr. -- author, lecturer, radio talk show host, community activist and founder of Alive & Free, an international violence prevention organization headquartered in San Francisco.

  • Julie Schneider -- Victim Advocate, Santa Cruz Police Department

  • Mindy Guzman -- former CPVAW Vice-Chair and Physician at Crossover Health

  • CPVAW Santa Cruz County Needs Assessment results and recommendations

  • Video showing of "The Bystander Moment: Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots" featuring Jackson Katz
